RAF Winter Sports BLSA is the association for a collective group of ice track sports; Bobsleigh, Natural Luge, Artificial Luge, and Skeleton Bob.
While they share some similarities as athletes race down icy tracks testing their speed, precision, and courage, each thrilling sport has distinct characteristics, techniques, and histories.
- Bobsleigh involves teams of two or four athletes racing down a narrow, twisting ice track in a specially designed sled. The goal is to complete the course in the shortest time possible.
- Luge is a sport where a single athlete or a pair lies on their back on a small sled, racing feet-first down an ice track. It is known for its high speeds and the precision required to navigate the course.
- Skeleton involves a single athlete racing head-first down an ice track on a small sled. It is named for the sled’s stripped-down, skeleton-like appearance.
RAF Winter Sports BLSA gives you the opportunity to dive into these exhilarating sports with absolutely zero experience and will train you up to be athletes within your chosen discipline.
All disciplines within BLSA train and compete within the UK and overseas with annual championships. The Association are proud to have athletes in all disciplines, who began their journey with RAF BLSA, competing at international level.
