The RAF Waterski and Wakeboard Association offers the opportunity to participate in one of the most enjoyable, physically challenging and fastest growing water sports areas.
Waterskiing sees participants glide across the surface of the water while being pulled behind a motorboat. The skier stands on skis and holds onto a tow rope attached to the boat, using the boat’s speed to propel themselves across the water. Waterskiing offers a unique blend of adrenaline, skill, and connection with the natural elements of water and wind.
Wakeboarding emerged in the 1980s when surfers and waterskiers began experimenting with riding on a single board towed behind a boat. The sport quickly gained popularity for its combination of elements from surfing, waterskiing, and snowboarding, where the rider carves and performs tricks on the water’s surface, utilising the boat’s wake for jumps and aerial maneuvers.
Encompassing the wakeboard boat and cable disciplines, and the waterski slalom, jump and trick disciplines, this association caters for all ability levels. Through their active outreach and rider development programmes, the Association invites complete novices to try their dynamic sport where riders can progress to find themselves representing the RAF at Inter-Service and National levels, in addition to participating in training camps all over Europe.
Membership is open to all serving RAF personnel so why not give it a try during one of their ‘Grass Roots’ sessions. Get in touch today!
