The RAF Gliding and Soaring Association (RAFGSA) has a distinguished history of producing pilots who have achieved remarkable success in the sport, including a triple world champion.
Despite this impressive track record, the Association’s primary focus is on training newcomers and introducing serving personnel, civilian MOD employees, and their families to this safe yet exhilarating aviation sport.
The RAFGSA Centre serves as the hub for gliding activities within the Association. It employs full-time personnel who are authorised to conduct the Joint Service Adventurous Training Scheme, ensuring that all training is both professional and comprehensive.
This Centre is supported by a network of 12 regional gliding clubs, including the main Centre, strategically located at or near RAF stations. Each club is equipped with a diverse fleet of aircraft, including tandem two-seaters and a variety of single-seat gliders.
These clubs cater to all skill levels, from those taking their first solo flight to experienced pilots pursuing advanced cross-country gliding. The wide range of aircraft available ensures that every pilot, regardless of their experience, can find the appropriate equipment to match their skill level and ambitions.
For those interested in exploring the thrill of gliding, RAFGSA provides a welcoming environment to begin or advance your gliding journey. Whether you are a novice or an experienced pilot, the Association offers ample opportunities to develop your skills and enjoy the unique experience of soaring through the skies.
