Danny’s Story

14 January 2022

“I have been playing the Sports Lottery since I joined the Royal Air Force circa 2003. Throughout my first few years of play I saw it as a normal charity lottery game, playing for the chance to be one of the lucky winners as well as contributing something back towards the RAF Central Fund for the benefit of the wider service.

Over the last 7 or 8 years, I have become more aware of the work that the Central Fund does to support sport in the RAF. As a member of the BLSA (Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton Association) I benefit from funding that we receive as an RAF Sports Association to assist with our sport and I have also been fortunate enough to receive several Individual Sports Grants throughout this time. The charity’s continued support has allowed me to follow my sporting ventures in Olympic Luge and in 2017 I was selected to represent Great Britain. Alongside this huge achievement, I have been successful in managing and competing for the RAF in the last six Inter Service Championships, resulting in victory for the last three annual events. None of this would have been possible without the help and support of the Central Fund; they continue to provide an unrivalled amount of support to RAF personnel to achieve their sporting achievements and for that I will be forever indebted to the charity, and everyone involved with it.

I couldn’t believe it and am still completely over the moon with my “double win”

Last summer I received the call that every Sports Lottery player wishes for, not only had I won the top prize but I also had another lucky ticket in the same draw! I couldn’t believe it and am still completely over the moon with my “double win” – £10,100 is an incredible amount of money to have won! My message to anyone thinking about signing up to the Sports Lottery is to do so as soon as you can, you’ve got to be in it to win it and in doing so you’ll be making a huge contribution. Once again, a massive THANK YOU to all at the Central Fund and good luck to all the Sports Lottery players!”
